What science ideas did you learn?

This week in science we learned more about how the Earth revolves around the sun. We also learned that something would have had to act on the Earth to have put it in motion.

How did you learn these ideas?

We realized that for the Earth to have been put in motion you have to think about the "Big Bang" theory. This means when the explosion occured the Earth, one of the many planets in it, went flying. It went flying for years, then was caught in the orbit of a humongous star, the Sun.
Then the sun, caught it in an eliptical orbit and so, the seasons were created. When the earth got closer to the sun, it was winter, when it got farther from the sun it became winter.

Why is it important to know this idea (What real world application is there)?

If I was in the N.A.S.A program and I was flying in a space shuttle, I would have needed to know how to get out of the Earth's orbit, and if I was an Astronomer, I would need to know about the "Big Bang" threory and why the Earth torated the way it did.
